XRP Ledger (XRPL): Call For Canary Network Grows Amid AMM Bug Hiccup

In light of the discovered bug that was recorded on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) following the launch of the Automated Market Maker (AMM), top ecosystem developer and founder of the Xumm Wallet WietseWind has called for a collective effort to deploy a Canary Network for the layer-1 blockchain.

XRP Ledger (XRPL) Canary Network: Key Features to Watch

According to WietseWind, embarking on developmental efforts for a protocol without a testing ground until its deployment is an aberration. He noted that though he would not be the first to put out a call for the launch of a Canary Network, the bug discovered after the launch of the AMM feature calls for better testing now.

Recall that Coingape reported the launch of the AMM feature, creating a milestone after years of conceptualization, building testing, and amendments. The technical glitch discovered afterward underscores the fragility that sparked concerns in the community, a concern WietseWind is looking to correct moving forward.

He said the Canary Network he is proposing needs to work just like the XRP Ledger in all key features. The network will need to have its native token and stablecoins backed against the EUR and USD amongst others.

Per his proposed Canary Network, he is advocating for a decentralized system where everyone will be able to contribute to the canary activities. This call has been sanctioned by many members of the XRP ecosystem, especially in the face of many other amendments and features poised to launch in the future.

Key Models For the Canary Network

With a Canary Network, changes can be tested in real-time before deployment on the mainnet. This helps forestall all mishaps that might befall the upgrade or product due to improper testnets.

There are many examples of testing ground deployment in the broader digital currency ecosystem. Before the launch of Dencun Upgrade, the feature was deployed on various testnets ranging from Goerli to Holesky testnets respectively.

Polkadot network also has its own Canary Network dubbed Kusama, a duo that are among the key pioneers of this innovation. Ripple-ally, Flare Networks also deploys the majority of its latest updates and products on Songbird before taking it to the Oracle protocol’s mainnet.

While the timeline to launch the XRP Ledger Canary Network remains unknown, community members consider this innovation as the next phase in the protocol’s evolution.
